Many moons has it been since my site has been online. The reason? I was hosting it off of my own computer that I left with a friend at IIT. The school changed their IP address assignment policy, and down went my connection. Rather than try to deal with IIT’s Office of Technology Services, I decided to call it quits on my trusty ol’ web box. When I visited Chicago in September, I yanked its hard drive and brought it back with me. Now I’m paying for hosting like everyone else (using GoDaddy). The control freak in me is chafing at only having FTP access, but I’ll manage. The gallery should be coming back online shortly, and I’ll be updating regularly now, so check back often!

Phew… To all readers of my blog, my apologies. The server that this resides on, which is located at the Sigep house (in Tony’s room - thanks a million), seems to have been powered off since last weekend. I don’t know if a power outage knocked it out or what. Needless to say, we’re up and running again. I’ve got a lot of things to talk about later, so I’ll make a laundry list:

• War of the Worlds
• Batman Begins
• Hotel Rwanda
• My Fourth of July weekend
• New MP3 player!

To any of you who might want to syndicate my page using Yahoo! RSS Syndication (and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, ignore this post), I’ve managed a little work-around to allow this to happen.
Just use this URL from Feedburner:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/JamessPlaceInCyberspace
It appears that Yahoo doesn’t see my page yet. I’m guessing that it’s either a DNS issue that will work itself out, or it’s a DNS screw-up on my part. 50 bucks it’s the second one.

Update: It appears that, 12 hours later, Yahoo can see my site. Pointing Yahoo’s RSS aggregator to my normal feed works just fine, thank you. Or you could still use Feedburner and save me some bandwidth.

I’ve got a photo gallery now. Look at all the pretty pictures…

Woohoo! After fits and starts with PHP, Apache, BIND, and the infernal MySQL, I’ve finally got this thing running! I plan to blog on here regularly and host my own photo gallery! We’ll see how long it takes me from here on out to get everything put together. If you have any comments or suggestions about what I should do with www.jameskirk.net, gimme a holler!
